Two talented TAG students recently explored ASL (American Sign Language) as part of the Extended Learning Program (ELP) during the first trimester. One student attended daily ELP Seminar sessions, while the other worked independently during study hall and met weekly with their ELP teacher, Ms. Carradus. Thanks to some creative scheduling and support from AEA resources, both students had access to study tools and materials tailored to their interests.
To make learning even more engaging, the students were paired as pen pals! The students exchanged letters under thoughtful parameters set by their teacher, fostering communication and practice in ASL.
This marks the second group of ELP students learning ASL at our school! Last year, two other students studied ASL together and even applied their skills at a nursing facility with a deaf resident.
We’re proud to offer opportunities like these, allowing students to pursue unique passions and gain life-changing skills as part of their public education experience!
